When the heck did we grow up and become responsible for so many things?! Being an adult always seemed like so much fun and easier…..now, here we are! *nervous laugh* There are so many things involved in being an adult that it’s now a verb! “Adulting” really is a million things in one LOL. Managing our own schedule, supporting and caring for others, getting enough sleep, staying hydrated, exercising, eating healthy, keeping a clean home, being on top of laundry, and watering all the plants, I mean the list goes on!
While there isn’t a right or wrong way to adult, here’s a round-up of amazing hacks to help you along this journey to keep things a bit more smooth, peaceful, and efficient.
Let go and live
Energy is such a big part of our lives. And without getting too deep, our subconscious mind plays the biggest role in this. So, get rid of anything that no longer serves you. If there is a person or activity that leaves you feeling drained, agitated, or not yourself, it’s time to let it go. Break it off, be done, and move on! If it’s a relationship, it doesn’t have to be a huge event. Just keep your distance and preserve your energy for the things and people that do fill you up and bring out the best in you. Your mental health is more important than being a people-pleaser!
Dust your home
You could have everything put away, tidied up, and organized BUT if your shelves, fans, and other surfaces are covered in dust….. it definitely makes your home not feel clean. So this is your reminder to get your duster out and dust those surfaces. You know you’re adulting when you are excited to dust!
Do your skin routine
Skincare is not a luxury, it’s a necessity, girl! It doesn’t have to be an extravagant and time-consuming routine but you def need to start with the basics! The staples you need (at a minimum) are a good cleanser, a toner, and a moisturizer. View my skin routine here! The face you have is the only one you got! So make it a priority to take care of it. Invest in products that work for your skin type and PH level. Treatments and facials are also great and if professional services aren’t in your budget, find quality treatments to do at home.
Weekly Car Cleaning
This sounds like a lot, but most likely you need to fill up your gas tank every week, right? So whenever you fill up, clean out the car while it pumps! Get rid of all those water bottles, snack wrappers, and old receipts to give your car a quick clean-up. Keep a microfiber cloth in your dash to quickly wipe up dust and clean the mirrors/windows. Even though it’s a little task, it really does make a difference in the overall “vibe” of your car!
This is all something we WANT to do more but we never do! So I’m going to make this easy for you. We all blame life for getting in the way but we all know there could be time if we really wanted it to happen. The best thing for this is to start multi-tasking! Doing your makeup? Prop your phone up and give them a call while you’re getting ready. Call while you’re getting in the car until you get to your destination. Cooking dinner? Talk on speaker! As little of an effort, this is, it is often overlooked. Give someone. call today!
Foam Roll
Foam rolling is one of the most convenient ways to maintain mobility as we get older. Wake up and roll out to wake all your muscles up! Not only does this allow more blood flow to your muscles but it also helps prevent injury. As we age, feeling young is important (at least for me) and as our bodies age with us, it’s important to make sure we feel good physically! So get on the ground and give your muscles the massage they need. Binging on Netflix? Foam roll. Getting ready for bed? Foam roll. Preworkout? Foam roll! Get a beginner foam roller here and then upgrade to an advanced foam roller here!
Have more "me" days
Committed relationship or solo gal on the prowl, adulting nowadays means taking the time to sneak away for a bath, doing your nails, hair mask, and facial. It helps to wind down and reconnect with yourself after the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Self-care can look different to everyone! Maybe important “you” time looks like a long walk with a fresh-pressed juice after or painting with some good tunes. Whatever that looks like for you do it! Schedule it in your calendar if you have to. Make it a priority!
Stop moving on your own
The day I don’t move myself and my furniture is the day I become an official adult! When you have a lot of things to move, packing and unpacking can take a very long time. And time is money! Speed up the process and ensure the safety of your belonging with the help of moving professionals. The professional home movers at Our Truck Moving in the Garland region provide expert planning that offers peace of mind. Personal or business move that includes offices, medical equipment, computers, or copiers, commercial Mesquite Movers, accommodates the needs of your business or home.
Wash your bed sheets more
As much as we would like to assume this is common sense, some of us definitely need a reminder to wash our bedsheets! If you need a reminder as to why…. just think of all the buildup of sweat, oil, grime, dead skin cells, pet hair, your hair! The list goes on. Weekly is ideal, but more realistically is every 7-10 days.
Meal planning
Not to be confused with meal prepping, meal planning is where you plan out what meals you will be cooking at home for the week and grocery shop according to that plan. Planning out meals will save you so much money because having a fully stocked fridge will (hopefully) prevent you from dining out or getting take-out. This also eliminates the struggles of what dinner will be after a long day because everything is already planned and bought!
